A Case Of Hyperthyroidism

Words: Dr Naveen Kumar BOGGARAPU

GK [28] presented with clinically-established hyperthyroidism [overactive thyroid] and dermatitis [eczema]. She looked wiry, with a fatigued physical presence, juxtaposed by a noticeable eczematous manifestation on her face. Her hubby was estranged from her owing to a long-term property disagreement. This ostensibly had a hostile effect on her health. What’s more, she had to go through a lot of pain, because of the ‘sly,’ also garish, comments on her appearance. She seemed to be more than a tad guarded, with no real annoyance, but there was an element of anxiety — deep within. Her other symptoms were amplified thirst, worrying nature and significant weight loss.

Hyperthyroidism is a disorder in which the thyroid gland produces and secretes just too much thyroid hormones — triiodothyronine [T3] and thyroxine [T4]. The illness may be asymptomatic, but when it is not, symptoms may present owing to thyroid hormone surplus. Thyroid hormones influence nearly every type of tissue in the body. It also functions as a ‘regulator’ for numerous processes in the body.

When there is just too much thyroid hormone, every function in the body appears to accelerate on all gears. Hence, some of the symptoms may be marked by intensified edginess, irritability, surplus sweat, a ‘racing’ heart, hand quivers, anxiety, trouble in sleeping, weakening of the skin, fine, fragile hair and muscular weakness — especially in the arms and thighs. There may also be recurrent bowel movements. Weight loss is sometimes substantial. This may occur regardless of a good appetite. For women, the menstrual flow may be compacted; or, periods may ensue irregularly.

I prescribed GK, the homeopathic remedy, Natrum muriaticum 30C, ‘customised’ on the basis of her presenting and other symptoms, aside from her wobbly emotional and psychological state. Most Natrum muriaticum individuals, or personality, types as GK’s disposition indicated, are full of a miffed frame of mind. They often brood over invectives, or reproach, and find it difficult to forgive and forget. GK was no exception to the ‘rule,’ as it were. She typified the Natrum muriaticum remedy-picture in looking for help, because of her previous experience, or insult. Her symptoms got worse with solace too. Yet, the paradox was, she was considerate to the difficulties of others in spite of her own hardships — a typical Natrum muriaticum characteristic.

After 12 months of homeopathic treatment, GK looked more in control of herself and also happy than ever before. What’s more, she’s pleased, not because she’s gained 10kg of healthy weight, but more so because of the noteworthy progress she’d made with her emotional, physical, thyroid-centric and dermatitis issues, thanks to homeopathic treatment.
