Homeopathy: Art Of The Matter

Words: Dr Narayan C DESHPANDE

Homeopathy uses small doses of ingredients, available in nature, to stimulate and assist the body’s natural ability to heal itself.

Key Concepts

  • Homeopathy employs natural remedies selected in accordance with the total symptom-picture of the patient. This will include not only external and internal symptoms, but also the individual’s lifestyle, emotional and mental states, idiosyncrasies and other factors
  • Homeopathy seeks to stimulate the body’s defence mechanisms and processes in order to prevent, or treat, illnesses
  • Treatment involves giving small, minute doses of medicinal substances. These are called homeopathic [potentised] remedies
  • Treatment is individualised [customised to each person]
  • Homeopathy suggests that our body has an innate ability to heal itself from the inside out. But, what may, sometimes, hinder healing are skewed lifestyles, stress and negative habits.

Illness, Balance & Health: The Homeopathic Perspective

Illness, according to homeopathy, is internal imbalance. Homeopathy suggests that Illnesses first occur at the most fundamental levels of our being.

This underlying imbalance is the cause of all disease, which appear in due course in the body as symptoms. These symptoms are manifest, or created, by the body in the process of trying to correct the imbalance.

Homeopathy addresses to correct this imbalance, using symptoms as a channel to choose the natural substance [the most suitable remedy] that can be of assistance in the process.

When we are in perfect balance [health], as Dr Samuel Hahnemann, MD, the founder of homeopathy, observed, we will not develop any symptoms. This is, however, not a state that everyone can easily achieve. It also means that when we are fully healthy, we are not only free of pain and physical symptoms, but we also have plenty of energy, we will think clearly, we’ll also experience happiness and a passion for creative things in life and genuinely care about others. In other words, we will also be ourselves and express our creativity to the fullest extent.

Homeopathy aims to bring each individual to the highest level of health possible at the physical, mental, and emotional levels.

As Dr Hahnemann affirmed, “The highest ideal of cure is to restore health rapidly, gently, permanently… in the shortest, surest, least harmful way.”

What does this mean? It means that you may have felt healthier, happier, and more energetic at some point in your life.

You may now believe that you’re just not what you were earlier, or are getting old, and that good health may no longer be attainable, or possible.

Wait a moment. Homeopathy can restore your health and vitality beyond your, and others’, expectations — gently, quickly, and without side-effects.

At the Physician’s Office

Typically, in homeopathy, patients have a lengthy first clinic visit. During this time, the homeopathic physician takes an in-depth review of the individual’s health status, their temperament, personality, likes and dislikes, sentiments and sensibilities, including idiosyncrasies This is used to guide the selection of one, or more, homeopathic remedies.

This is supplemented by follow-up visits, where individuals treated report how they are responding to the remedy, or remedies. This will help the physician to arrive at decisions about further treatment. In traditional, or classical, homeopathy, only one remedy is administered at any given time.
