Dr D A ANAND responds to ThinkWellness360 questionnaire.
Why and how did you think of becoming a doctor?
I’ve always been drawn to helping others. The idea of making a positive impact on people’s lives through holistic healthcare inspired me to pursuing this path, because a ‘healthy life,’ as I cogently believe, is the greatest achievement — in anyone’s life.
What made you think of, study and specialise in the system of medicine you now practice?
I was drawn to Ayurveda because of its natural, also all-encompassing holistic approach, which focuses not just on treating diseases, but also maintaining one’s overall well-being, juxtaposed by its emphasis on natural healing, lifestyle, and personalised, or bespoke, care. This has always aligned to my belief — treating the ‘root cause’ rather than just obvious, or ascertained, symptoms.
What has been your personal and professional experience as a doctor?
My personal experience as a doctor has been deeply rewarding, as it allows me to connecting with people at a meaningful level and supporting them in their health journey. Interacting with people from diverse backgrounds, and hearing their life experiences, has profoundly shaped my perspective on life and enriched my understanding of humanity. Professionally, I’ve gained extensive hands-on experience as regards diagnosing, treating, and guiding patients, while continually learning and adapting to new medical challenges.
What unique and special skills you think you have that has made the big difference for your patients?
The ability to understand the real cause of their pain.
What is your best definition of optimal wellness and why?
Optimal wellness is the harmonious functioning of the mind-body connexion. This enables a person to live a fulfilling and resilient life. It’s a dynamic state, where physical health, mental clarity, emotional stability, and social well-being are in optimal balance. This, of course, goes far beyond the mere absence of illness, while focusing on the individual’s ability to thrive, make meaningful connections, manage stress effectively, and pursue personal goals — also, dreams.
