Dr GURUPRASAD responds to ThinkWellness360 questionnaire.
Why and how did you think of becoming a doctor?
I always empathised with and to serving society, more so the sick. This led me to my predictable destination, also career — that nothing is better than being god’s helping hand as a thoughtful, conscientious physician.
What made you think of, study and specialise in the system of medicine you now practice?
Frankly, destiny. Nothing else.
What has been your personal and professional experience as a doctor?
It has only been good; and, I’m just loving it.
What unique and special skills you think you have that has made the big difference for your patients?
Punctuality and accuracy in clinical diagnosis. A willing ear to listen and act in the best possible manner with the healing tools of ancient, yet modern, Ayurveda.
What is your best definition of optimal wellness and why?
Suśruta has best explained it as complete wellness — physical, mental, spiritual, and more. I’m in total agreement with his timeless tenet.
Your ‘best’ case?
A middle-aged lady with primary lesions in the breast and metastasis — the process by which cancer cells spread to other parts of the body — in the chest and bones consulted me with reactivation of some ‘mets,’ following a series of conventional therapeutic interventions. She was severely anaemic. I treated her with Ayurveda medications; she’s so far doing well, much to my own surprise.
Your ‘not-so-good’ case?
Gynaecological cases and I have not been ‘good’ friends.
What appeals to you the most?
Affability.
What annoys you the most?
Nothing has succeeded in annoying me yet. Just waiting for it to happen and to know how I’d act, or react, to it. Well, it is a ‘publicised’ secret that has helped me immensely in my medical practice and treating patients — whatever their baggage of health problems, battery of symptoms, quirks, or idiosyncrasies.
