Words: Dr Naveen Kumar BOGGARAPU
PJ [23], a livewire business associate in a top company, was always in a rush; she would eat a quick breakfast, while watching TV, just before driving to work. She had nasal allergy; her nasal discharge smelled really bad. It resembled chewing gum too; it was sinewy. She depended on anti-histamine pills for respite. When her nose got stuffed up, she ‘pumped’ in a nasal spray. When she returned home from work, she was always exhausted. When she developed a fever, she would take an anti-cold, or flu, pill, for quick relief — this often triggered a tummy upset. She was fed up of her allergy and also medications.
I prescribed her the homeopathic Kali bichromicum 30C, on the basis of her overall symptom-picture, especially stringy mucous A few weeks later, she could not stop smiling — thanks to the homeopathic remedy that had provided her tangible, effective, long-term, also safe relief from her allergic distress.
Case-2
VK [27] presented with frequent bouts of allergic rhinitis, or nasal allergy, of over five years. Every change of weather, including smoke and dust would trigger his allergic bouts — the resultant effect being incessant sneezing, sore throat and difficulty in swallowing liquids, including water. This would subside, although momentarily, with anti-allergic conventional medications. This became a ‘habit;’ almost dependence. He wasn’t happy with it. He thought of homeopathy. Following case-analysis, I prescribed him the homeopathic remedy, Baryta carbonicum 30C, based on his symptom-picture and personality type. After 4-5 months of homeopathic treatment his allergic misery not only improved, but it also become far too infrequent.
Self-Help
- Vacuum-clean your mattress, curtains, upholstery and soft furnishing, regularly. ‘Hot-wash’ bed-sheets, pillow covers and blankets regularly. This will ensure that the dust mite eggs, as well as the mites, a common allergy trigger, are destroyed
- Dust with a dampened cloth, instead of a dry cloth. Dry dusting tends to propel dust containing mites and their allergens into the air
- Boil-wash children’s soft toys. Or, bag them and put them in the freezer. Either action will kill dust mites
- You may find that your pets aggravate your condition through exposure to their hair, dander, saliva, or urine. Remove pet hair and vacuum-clean the pet area regularly
- Avoid exposure to common triggers, such as tobacco smoke, aerosol spray, certain perfumes and automobile exhaust
- Read food labels carefully to avoid food substances that you may be allergic to
- Consult a professional homeopath. Don’t self-treat.
