‘Balance Life. Work Well.’

Riya SEN on beauty, fitness, health and wellness.

Your view on beauty?

Beauty in my view is being confident, strong, self-assured, and calm to express oneself. I think a minimal make-up and just a little lipstick would be good enough, unless you’re shooting for a movie. Well, the best part, for me, is — beauty starts with a smile, and this is in no way cosmetic.

Your ‘take’ on fitness?

Fitness is health. I exercise regularly: gym, weight training and stretching exercises. Besides, I love to swim, do yoga and attend dance classes. My mantra is, ‘Fasting does not lead to enlightenment.’ I eat everything and though I love junk-food as well, I prefer controlled eating and I don’t overindulge. I eat only when I’m hungry and prefer several small meals during the day. I drink lots of water; it cleanses my system and keeps my skin healthy-looking.

Your view of health and wellness?

Health and wellness are the sum of the parts and part of the whole. I drink plenty of water to keep my body well hydrated. I also prefer a protein smoothie, especially when I don’t have the time for a full, wholesome meal. I make sure that my workouts don’t get stagnant, or boring. I love running and swimming. My adjustable workouts, I believe, are exciting ways to providing exercise for the whole body — without getting too rigid. It all adds up to my health and wellness.

Your take on work-life balance?

We ought to shape our inner self and spend time doing all the things we love to connect better with our mind and body. That is — get a good, tight hold on one’s awareness and associate better with the mind, also body. This will help us win the long race. This also amounts to balancing our life every day and showing up for work regularly — and, on time.

Your mantra to beat stress?

I’m a total home-bird, which is contrary to my image of being the party type. A good night’s sleep not only relaxes me, but it also does a world of good to my skin and health. Reading, watching movies, yoga and cooking new recipes are great stress-busters for me.
