Soul Melodies

Words: Dr Rajgopal NIDAMBOOR

When we repel our emotions routinely, we disrupt our self-esteem’s applecart. When we, likewise, suppress our emotions, we also lose our touch with our inner self, including the capability to ‘reflect’ with our soul. It is, after all, our soul that makes us human. You and I become empathetic only when we find a deep connect, or understanding, with our soul. If we don’t connect, for whatever reason, we lose our accord with ‘who we are,’ or ‘what we are.’ We’ll continue to automatically exist through reflex action — not live a vibrant, conscious life with our mind, body, and soul.

The soul is not a wedged entity. It represents a quality, a dimension of living a full life and accepting ourselves. It expresses your values, beliefs, and the ‘hub’ of being. When you care and respond to the call of your soul, you’ll express yourself. You’ll also feel and unite with it. What’s more, you will knowingly experience life and watch, or scan, your reactions that take place in the deep recesses of your inner being. You’ll glow with harmony.

Life is a progression. It may be viewed as either positive, or negative, depending upon how you look at, or sense, the epitome of living — not mere existence. Most of us frenetically try to avoid unconstructive feelings in life. Most of us fear about troubles — of what we must do to free ourselves from apprehension, pain and sorrow. The best thing we’d do is to distinguish and ‘bond’ with them — the twinge of our soul. This will bring awareness. It will eventually help us to select antidotes to our problems. It will ‘rev-up’ our inner strength — something we can carry forward with a purpose. When you and I learn to perceive the soul with an open mind, we’ll be able to find what has gone wrong with us. In so doing, we can turnaround failures, disappointments, illnesses, and other equally agonising feelings — among other things.

Life is tough, taxing and composite. No one other than highly evolved beings can effectively control their thoughts and feelings. Yet, when you and I learn to ‘coach’ our minds, howsoever faultily, and respond calmly to situations, we will be much better human beings. The more we ‘travel’ within the mind, the more we go beyond; and, the more extensive the learning, the more we go beyond. We all know it: that within the world of matter is the body, even though our fundamental psyche goes beyond matter in several ways. Our feelings and emotions recognise a world. They also ‘blend’ consciousness, the past and the future, even when the body is at rest — in deep sleep.

When we explore intensely within our psyche, our mind becomes calm: this leads to a state of infinite stillness. When the soul begins to verbalise, after we wake up from sleep, we materialise into a state that we may never have imagined existed. It is a condition that is beyond constancy, or belief. It is verily a ‘sound’ junction where the mystifying eternity breathes new life into perishable time — including the timelessness of bliss itself.

It is also something that is transpersonal, beyond individual identities; a form that is always within and beyond. You may have experienced such peak experiences: of both wonder and allure, without knowing its essence. You may call it a distinctive phase: a moment where the soul begins to swell enduringly into consciousness. It may not be all-embracing, yes, but the fact is: your soul can cuddle the cumulative province of mysticism and ‘plumb’ its own depths of mystical fervour with soulful intent.
