‘Keep It Simple. Also Smart’

Srilaxmi M KARAJGI responds to ThinkWellness360 questionnaire.

Your view on beauty?

Beauty, in my view, is simplicity personified. It is also being able to carry oneself with confidence. This is all that matters. However, our all-pervasive, or ‘perverse,’ obsession with social media has led to us believe that we ought to fit into ‘so-called’ beauty standards to feel beautiful, or pretty. This is absolutely flawed. Beauty is how we feel from within, no matter how expensive our clothing is, or not, or how many layers of make-up we use to feel a part of the arc lights, or personal stardom. Remember: if you don’t feel good and confident from within, it will just not reflect on the outside. I’ve just one simple piece of ‘advice’ — just be you, and this more than enough, for you, to feel on top of the world.

Your view of health and wellness?

Health and wellness depend on how you treat your body and mind: it’s so simple, as the saying goes, but difficult to achieve without commitment. Health is wealth, yes; so, it is imperative that we take good care of our physical and mental health, eat healthy food and exercise regularly. These are basic things; yet, they play a vital role in achieving wellness.

Your ‘take’ on fitness?

Fitness is often mistaken for ‘being thin and in good shape’ — but, the fact is, it is all about being healthy from the inside out. It is also about healthy lifestyle. Remember, it is important for everyone, no matter their age, to be involved in some physical activity, or exercise, for a minimum of 30 minutes, every day — be it walking, jogging, yoga, or hitting the gym. Being physically active improves our overall health; it also ‘ups’ our happy hormones. This is more than good for our moods and emotional wellness.

Your ‘take’ of work-life balance?

All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy. This good, old axiom is true, more so when it comes to maintaining a healthy balance between work and life, and also life and work. It is extremely important for us to know where to draw the line between work and life, and vice versa. Keep it simple; also smart. We ought to always make sure that we don’t bring office work home, or take ‘home’ to office, too. This isn’t as easy, but when we make a concerted effort to allocate good, quality time to our family and ourselves, it makes a world of difference — while bringing harmonious balance — to everyone at home.

Your mantra to beat stress?

I feel it important for all of us to have that at least one engaging hobby — one that we love doing. This is simply because there’s nothing that can beat stress than a good hobby that you love. Add to it, the spin-off of having a positive mind-set, and it helps you to surmount your stresses, or everyday humdrum and monotony, in a jiffy.
